The department has protected various important archaeological monuments of historical importance periodically. The department has protected 3 monuments in 1976, four monuments in 1977, 1978, & 1980, 17 monuments in 1981, 5 monuments in 1982, 8 monuments in 1983, 23 monuments in 1984, 13 monuments in 1985, 19 monuments in 1986, 6 monuments in 1987, 4 monuments in 1988, 1 monument in 1989, 114 monuments have been protected in 1990, 20 monuments in 1991, 3 monuments in 1992, 19 monuments in 1993, 4 monuments in 1994, 1 monument in 1995, 8 monuments in 1999, 2 monuments in 2000, 24 monuments in 2005, 2 monuments in 2006, 13 monuments in 2007, 10 monuments in 2008 while 8 monuments were protected in 2009 by the Directorate of Archaeology, Archives & Museums. At present total number of protected monuments are 349 which are looked after by the Directorate.
