This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the people.

Independence Day Celebration in Indore

Independence Day Indore Celebration at RajwadaThe period leading up to Independence Day is a time of celebration in Indore. It is a time when major government buildings like Rajwada, State Bank of India Main Branch, etc are illuminated with strings of lights and the tricolor flutters proudly from homes and other buildings. Independence Day - the15th of August is marked as a National Holiday, to enable each citizen to commemorate the sacrifices made by our brave freedom fighters decades ago and celebrate our freedom.

In the week around Independence Day, the media enthusiastically promotes a spirit of patriotism with special contests and programmes being telecast by radio stations and television channels. Movies about the heroic deeds of martyrs are screened on television while publications bring out stories and reports with a nationalistic theme.

The President delivers the 'Address to the Nation' on the eve of Independence Day. This is followed by the unfurling of the tricolour from the Red Fort in Delhi on the next day. At the State level, we witness special Independence Day functions that include flag hoisting ceremonies, march pasts and cultural programmes. These events are held in State Capitals and are usually presided over by the Chief Minister of that particular State. Celebrations on a smaller scale are held by educational institutions, residential associations, cultural centres and political constituencies.

Another symbol of Independence Day is the sport of kite flying. The azure skies are dotted with countless kites being flown from rooftops and fields to symbolize the free spirit of India. Kites of various styles, sizes and shades, including the tricolour are available in the marketplaces. Kite flying enthusiasts simply revel in this opportunity to display their kite fighting skills.

On 15 August 1947, India attained freedom from the British Rule. Every year, August 15 is celebrated as the Independence Day in India. This national festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country.

Indore, Apr 6 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh''s industrial city Indore is not only developing commercially, but the number of local crorepatis is also increasing rapidly, a top Income-Tax Department official said today.
As against 195 crorepatis in 2009-10, about 260 Indorians became tax-payer crorepatis in the just concluded fiscal year 2010-11, Chief Commissioner Income Tax S K Mishra told a press conference here.
Declining to provide a list of such crorepatis, Mishra said there would be hundreds other business tycoons having assets running into crores, but they have to be found out through searches.
To a question, the I-T officer said politicians could be another lot under crorepati category but this has to be ascertained. However, MLAs and MPs hailing from Indore were true tax payers, he said.
Quoting provisional figures of tax collection in the last FY, he said, Indore''s tax collection was Rs 1,600 crore as against Rs 5.12 crore five years ago (2005-10).
The department has set a target of Rs 2,000 crore IT collection from Indore in the current fiscal, Mishra said.
E-return filing was gaining momentum in the city, he added.
