Festivals in Indore are in a sense are living testimony to the fact that under the wave of modernization and new age developments, the city has managed commendably to preserve its deep rooted culture and ancient traditions. Celebrated with much vigor and enthusiasm, this festival reflect the cultural background exhibiting the various rituals and ceremonies that cycle through each year –serving as a welcome respite from the mad rush of city life.

Anant Chaudas

Anant Chaudas is perhaps the most popular festivals of Indore. Although the festivities start from the day itself, it is during the night when large processions carrying huge idols of Lord Ganesha head towards the water bodies to immerse it. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the people.

Rangapanchami

Rangapanchami is one of Indore’s oldest festivals that used to be celebrated during the Holkar rule and for keeping alive the tradition and respect for the famed rulers, the festival continues to be celebrated till date. Rangapanchami festival falls five days after Holi and is celebrated more or less in the same manner. People come out of their home spraying colors one each other and even the city municipal corporation joins the celebrations, spraying Indore streets with colors and shades. Apart from the colors, the festival also witnesses musical performance and traditional songs filling the air.

Ahilya Utsav

Ahilya Utsav is an annual festival celebrated to commemorate the death anniversary of Rani Ahilya Bai, the brave queen of Indore.
