Indore: A fast track court on Wednesday issued bailable warrants against 30 shopkeepers of Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar (MTH) cloth market and Shastri market areas after Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) filed ‘challans’ against them for encroachment and littering.
The civic authorities after having failed to remove encroachments and stop shopkeepers from littering the streets, especially back lanes in congested markets, decided to take legal action to make the erring traders comply with the law.
The IMC officials found that the shopkeepers in MTH and Shastri market areas were displaying their wares on the footpath and over drainage lanes and also were dumping their waste on the road and in the lanes leading to disruption of traffic and even causing health hazards. During recent drives, nearly 50 ‘challans’ were issued to the shopkeepers there.
Of these, nearly 20 shopkeepers who had been booked and were facing legal action appeared in the court and accepting their mistake were let off on lenient terms. The court also issued bailable warrants against 30 shopkeepers who had not turn up for hearing. The court has fixed different dates for hearing these cases.
