BRTS: Now, get a bus in just three minutes

Indore: Even if you miss a bus, you will not have to wait for more than three minutes for another bus once the ambitious Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) corridor become operational in the city.

A decision on the frequency of the buses was one of the several decisions taken in a meeting held to finalise the operational aspects of BRTS corridor on Wednesday.

“We have prepared a plan of operation in collaboration with Embarq an organisation providing environmentally and financially sustainable transport solutions globally,” CEO of Atal Indore City Transport Services Company Limited (AICTSCL) Gautam Singh told DNA.

The buses will be available to the passengers in a gap of three minutes at any of the 22 bus stops which are to be built on the 14-km stretch from Niranjanpur to Pipliyapala.

The traffic signals along the BRTS corridor will be equipped with bus transit signal priority which will give buses prioritised right-of-way at the signals—- the signals will turn green when buses arrive within 100 metres of a signal.

Ticketing will be done through an automated fare collection system. Over the time the commuters will have an option to buy prepaid smart cards and the bus stations will have separate queues for pre-paid and non pre-paid customers.

A total 50 buses are being procured for the BRTS corridor. Besides being fully air-conditioned, these buses will also have other facilities like they will open on right hand side and doors will be automatic. The driver will have the option of regulating the doors. Automatic display will update passengers about the upcoming bus stops.

“As of now the projections say that for the population which is expected to travel on the corridor we need 47 buses at a time,” Singh said.

The officials of AICTSCL, mayor Indore Municipal Corporation Krishna Murari Moghe, apart from other officials were present in the meeting.
